Cortez: Meeting an Archmage

From Dragon Teeth to figurative teeth in a sea that wanted to bite our boat. The waters around the Teeth are treacherous to say the least, but we are a skilled crew with plenty of knowledge on rough seas. We made it without incident, though we did gain an interesting figurehead... magical it appears. But what it does, we don't know yet.

Getting to the Archmage herself was... difficult. She's constructed a series of tests, though at first it simply appears that it's just a display of magic. First the tower itself was suspended some 220 feet in the air by way of water geyser and rock... but make no mistake, the geyser was below and the rock above... such is the way of magic.

Upon gaining entrance to the tower, we were accosted by a large parrot that kept talking about how horrible we were. The second test was to identify a key... based on the map. My mind quickly went to Azy Cay, which was, indeed, the right spot to get us to the test of fire. Fire was annoying... but it was a pattern of tiles we had to step on and not get burned to a crisp. The last test was water... simply a matter of swimming.

I'm quite an accomplished swimmer, I must say. And I made it through. Krastus and Helene also made it. And that's when we met the Archmage.

She wasn't as intimidating as I'd have thought. Of course, when you deal with a Krastus who never lets you forget how powerful and strong he is you tend to wonder if it's the magic that goes to their heads.

Either way, she told us that the water levels are rising because of the Hags. Their magic is still bringing water to this world from my old one. And the only way to dispel such magic is to kill the Hags. I laughed when I heard this. After all, she's only giving us a task that the entire Kraken Fleet failed at. And not just failed, but failed miserably. Though she has information on how to summon the hags to the surface... I don't know if that would be such a good deal.

I did ask about my shadow. She said I'd have to take someone else's shadow. That sounds bad. And she also seemed to think that my deal with the shadow people would come back to haunt me. Or, rather, that I broke the deal would. But if that's the case, we'll just have to kill whoever comes after me.

It's always one more thing. But I'm thinking it's time to go back to Kiera. Maybe have Serene pretend she owns the vessel again to get us past the checkpoints, if there are any.
