Cortez: A Shadow's End

With a magic-imbued sword in hand and the vague idea of how to kill a shadow we set about trying to end the enchantment that bound my shadow to do terrible things to children in every port we were at. It turns out we had looted more than just the one sword I used to own, but also a bloody axe (actually, it always bled) and some strange crossbow as well.

I stood on the deck and stabbed at my own shadow. It moved interestingly and then I told Krastus to take a swing with his axe. Krastus did so and then proceeded to attack Carlton and myself. I don't know if the Shadow possessed him to do it, or if the axe had some terrible enchantment on it, but Carlton and I suddenly had our hands full of crab!

While I parried and stabbed at Krastus, trying to disarm him, Carlton was also trying to shoot the axe away. Meanwhile, my shadow had sprung to life to defend itself and seemed to think the best plan was to fight our two women crew. Both Sira and Helene found themselves beset by this shadowy form that took no damage from their attacks.

Carlton finally destroyed Krastus's axe, and I tried chasing down the shadow. But it cut us up quite a bit and then vanished back into the immaterial. Warning me not to try this again, that i had signed a contract.

So we sailed toward the beach and found the crew was most displeased with things. They wanted double pay. Which I reluctantly agreed to, though I thought they were being rather rough in their timing of things. After talking it over, we decided we needed to finish things with the shadow, sooner rather than later. And so we went to the beach, and set up logs for fire, to minimize the shadows around us.

Carlton used the crossbow. Unsure if this would be enchanted enough to do any harm, and I stood by ready to swing. But it turned out unnecessary. We brought forth our abilities at once, and the shadow dissolved under a hail of enchanted bullets.

We returned to the ship. I have no shadow any more... and not just the enchanted evil kind. My regular shadow is missing as well. But I can live with that a lot easier than having a murderous one.
